The Blacks travelled to Tarleton to finally play the team
who could mathematically catch them in the league and whom
we play in 2 of our last 3 matches of the season.
It was sunny though windy (as ever at Tarleton) but the
playing surface was very good (again typical of Tarleton)
and so we were confident the blacks passing game would be
encouraged.
Right from the start the Blacks got on top with strong
tackles and then good passing and movement and it set up a
chance for Dan who shot just wide. A few minutes later a
pass from Ben found Dan on the right and he beat two
defenders and crossed into the box. The defenders clearance
fell to Kurt who hit a perfect drive into the top corner .
Confidence built, the Blacks continued to dominate and
create a number of half chances. When Tarleton did attack
Ben and Luke were really strong defensively and other than a
couple of corners, there was no pressure on the Euxton goal.
Daniel and Dylan were giving the Tarleton defence lots to
worry about and Aedan's willingness to run through midfield
was keeping the ball in the Tarleton half. After one of
these runs Aedan broke through and with a one on one with
the keeper hit a good low shot which the keeper saved with
his feet. It fell to Daniel who showed real class to clip it
into the goal avoiding the defender who got back onto the
line.
2-0 up at half time was the least the Blacks deserved .
Dylan made changes for the second half with Jack and Matthew
coming into defence and Jamie in midfield with Ben, Luke and
Aedan having a rest. The second half was a little more even
and it became quite end to end at times. Euxton were the
better team still and it was half way through the half
before Dylan took a ball on the left and cut into the box
and hit a low shot that beat the goalkeeper. Back to more
like his best it was the least he deserved. He came of for a
rest allowing thomas a run down the left.
Tarleton pushed players forward looking for a consolation
and Aarbaaz had to make a brave save at the feet of a
forward to keep a clean sheet. Then Matthew bravely made a
double block to do the same. At the other end Daniel was
running at the Tarleton defence and proving too hard to
handle for 3 defenders at times. He was unlucky not to score
more.
In the end the match finished 3-0 and this win was enough to
secure the Blacks a much deserved league title. Once this
had been pointed out to the boys there was the most subdued
celebration ever seen !
The boys deserve credit for the style of football they have
played and above all the attitude and team spirit shown all
season. They really deserve those medals - Well Done Boys!
Man of the Match for another clean sheet - Aarbaaz
